Over the weekend a woman wanted to take a selfie at an Arizona zoo with a jaguar. She crossed the safety barrier to get closer to the jaguar, she got so close that the jaguar reached out a grabbed her arm. She screamed in horror as the jaguar’s claws dug into her arm. Other zoo visitors heard her screams and were able to distract the jaguar and pull her to safety. After receiving medical attention, she was able to go home the same night.
The next day, she came back to the zoo and apologized for creating bad publicity for the zoo. Although she also said that there needs to be more of a barrier.
Now for my thoughts! I think this Darwinism at its finest. Common sense should tell you that there is a barrier for a reason and saying that there needs to be more of a barrier is moot because she hopped over the first barrier to get the precious selfie. The jaguar is the 3rd largest cat species and is an apex predator. This isn’t some sweet little Butters, it’s a large wild animal whose home you just trespassed on.
The zoo released a statement stating that nothing will happen to the jaguar because she was just being a jaguar and that the woman is the one who broke the rules.
I so agree with you! I’m glad the woman is ok, of course. But…This is selfie culture at its worse- expecting a jaguar to go along with it!! And blaming the zoo for their barriers 🙀Wake up, world! 🙄🙄🙄I’m so relieved they are not doing anything to the jaguar!
